The Phillistines Capture the Ark
1. And the word of Samuel came to all Israel. Now Israel went out against the Philistines to battle, and pitched beside Ebenezer: and the Philistines pitched in Aphek.
1. La parole de Samuel s`adressait à tout Israël. Israël sortit à la rencontre des Philistins, pour combattre. Ils campèrent près d`Ében Ézer, et les Philistins étaient campés à Aphek.
1. "Ary tonga tany amin' ny Isiraely rehetra ny tenin' i Samoela. Dia nandeha ny Isiraely hiady tamin' ny Filistina ka nitoby teo anilan' i Ebenezera; ary ny Filistina kosa nitoby tany Afeka."
2. And the Philistines put themselves in array against Israel: and when they joined battle, Israel was smitten before the Philistines: and they slew of the army in the field about four thousand men.
2. Les Philistins se rangèrent en bataille contre Israël, et le combat s`engagea. Israël fut battu par les Philistins, qui tuèrent sur le champ de bataille environ quatre mille hommes.
2. "Dia nilahatra ny Filistina hiady amin' ny Isiraely; ary rehefa raikitra ny ady, dia resin' ny Filistina ny Isiraely, ka nahafatesana tokony ho efatra arivo lahy ny miaramila nilahatra tany an-tsaha."
3. And when the people were come into the camp, the elders of Israel said, Wherefore hath the LORD smitten us to day before the Philistines? Let us fetch the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of Shiloh unto us, that, when it cometh among us, it may save us out of the hand of our enemies.
3. "Le peuple rentra au camp, et les anciens d`Israël dirent: Pourquoi l`Éternel nous a-t-il laissé battre aujourd`hui par les Philistins? Allons chercher à Silo l`arche de l`alliance de l`Éternel; qu`elle vienne au milieu de nous, et qu`elle nous délivre de la main de nos ennemis."
3. Ary rehefa tonga tany an-toby ny olona, dia hoy ny loholon' ny Isiraely: Nahoana no namely antsika teo anoloan' ny Filistina Jehovah androany? Andeha halaintsika avy any Silo ho eto amintsika ny fiaran' ny faneken' i Jehovah, ka raha tonga eto amintsika izany, dia hamonjy antsika amin' ny tanan' ny fahavalontsika.
4. So the people sent to Shiloh, that they might bring from thence the ark of the covenant of the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth between the cherubims: and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.
4. Le peuple envoya à Silo, d`où l`on apporta l`arche de l`alliance de l`Éternel des armées qui siège entre les chérubins. Les deux fils d`Éli, Hophni et Phinées, étaient là, avec l`arche de l`alliance de Dieu.
4. "Dia naniraka nankany Silo ny olona haka ny fiaran' ny faneken' i Jehovah, Tompon' ny maro, Izay mipetraka amin' ny kerobima; ary tao Silo, teo amin' ny fiaran' ny faneken' Andriamanitra, izy mirahalahy zanak' i Ely, dia Hofinia sy Finehasa."
5. And when the ark of the covenant of the LORD came into the camp, all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that the earth rang again.
5. Lorsque l`arche de l`alliance de l`Éternel entra dans le camp, tout Israël poussa de grands cris de joie, et la terre en fut ébranlée.
5. Ary rehefa tonga teo an-toby ny fiaran' ny faneken' i Jehovah, dia nihoby mafy ny Zanak' Isiraely rehetra, ka dia nanako ny tany.
6. And when the Philistines heard the noise of the shout, they said, What meaneth the noise of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews? And they understood that the ark of the LORD was come into the camp.
6. Le retentissement de ces cris fut entendu des Philistins, et ils dirent: Que signifient ces grands cris qui retentissent dans le camp des Hébreux? Et ils apprirent que l`arche de l`Éternel était arrivée au camp.
6. "Ary rehefa ren' ny Filistina ny hoby, dia hoy izy; Inona re izany hoby mafy any an-tobin' ny Hebreo izany? Ary fantany fa tonga ao an-toby ny fiaran' i Jehovah."
7. And the Philistines were afraid, for they said, God is come into the camp. And they said, Woe unto us! for there hath not been such a thing heretofore.
7. Les Philistins eurent peur, parce qu`ils crurent que Dieu était venu dans le camp. Malheur à nous! dirent-ils, car il n`en a pas été ainsi jusqu`à présent.
7. Dia raiki-tahotra ny Filistina ka nanao hoe: Andriamanitra no tonga ao an-toby. Ary hoy koa izy: Mahita loza isika! fa tsy mbola nisy toy izao.
8. Woe unto us! who shall deliver us out of the hand of these mighty Gods? these are the Gods that smote the Egyptians with all the plagues in the wilderness.
8. Malheur à nous! Qui nous délivrera de la main de ces dieux puissants? Ce sont ces dieux qui ont frappé les Égyptiens de toutes sortes de plaies dans le désert.
8. Mahita loza isika! Iza no hanafaka antsika amin' ny tanan' ireo Andriamanitra mahery ireo! Ireo no Andriamanitra izay namely ny Egyptiana tamin' ny loza rehetra tany an' efitra.
9. Be strong, and quit yourselves like men, O ye Philistines, that ye be not servants unto the Hebrews, as they have been to you: quit yourselves like men, and fight.
9. "Fortifiez-vous et soyez des hommes, Philistins, de peur que vous ne soyez asservis aux Hébreux comme ils vous ont été asservis; soyez des hommes et combattez!"
9. "Mahereza, ary aoka hitomban-dahy ianareo, ry Filistina, fandrao hanompo ny Hebreo ianareo tahaka ny nanompoany anareo; misehoa ho lehilahy ianareo, ka miadia."
10. And the Philistines fought, and Israel was smitten, and they fled every man into his tent: and there was a very great slaughter; for there fell of Israel thirty thousand footmen.
10. Les Philistins livrèrent bataille, et Israël fut battu. Chacun s`enfuit dans sa tente. La défaite fut très grande, et il tomba d`Israël trente mille hommes de pied.
10. Ary niady ny Filistina, dia resy ny Isiraely, ka samy nandositra ho any an-dainy avy izy rehetra, ary be dia be no maty, dia lehilahy telo alina mandeha an-tongotra tamin' ny Isiraely no niampatrampatra.
11. And the ark of God was taken; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were slain.
11. L`arche de Dieu fut prise, et les deux fils d`Éli, Hophni et Phinées, moururent.
11. Dia lasan-ko babo ny fiaran' Andriamanitra, ary maty izy mirahalahy zanak' i Ely, dia Hofinia sy Finehasa.
Death of Eli
12. And there ran a man of Benjamin out of the army, and came to Shiloh the same day with his clothes rent, and with earth upon his head.
12. Un homme de Benjamin accourut du champ de bataille et vint à Silo le même jour, les vêtements déchirés et la tête couverte de terre.
12. Ary nisy lehilahy Benjamita anankiray nihazakazaka avy tany amin' ny miaramila ka tonga tao Silo androtrizay ihany, ary triatra ny akanjony, sady nihosin-tany ny lohany.
13. And when he came, lo, Eli sat upon a seat by the wayside watching: for his heart trembled for the ark of God. And when the man came into the city, and told it, all the city cried out.
13. Lorsqu`il arriva, Éli était dans l`attente, assis sur un siège près du chemin, car son coeur était inquiet pour l`arche de Dieu. A son entrée dans la ville, cet homme donna la nouvelle, et toute la ville poussa des cris.
13. Ary raha tonga izy, indro, Ely nipetraka teo amin' ny sezany ka nitazana teo amoron-dalana, fa niemponempona ny fony noho ny fiaran' Andriamanitra. Ary nony tonga tao an-tanàna ralehilahy ka nilaza, dia nidradradradra ny tao an-tanàna rehetra.
14. And when Eli heard the noise of the crying, he said, What meaneth the noise of this tumult? And the man came in hastily, and told Eli.
14. Éli, entendant ces cris, dit: Que signifie ce tumulte? Et aussitôt l`homme vint apporter la nouvelle à Éli.
14. Ary rehefa ren' i Ely ny feo midradradradra, dia hoy izy: Inona izao feo mitabataba izao? Ary ilay lehilahy nanatona faingana ka nilaza tamin' i Ely.
15. Now Eli was ninety and eight years old; and his eyes were dim, that he could not see.
15. Or Éli était âgé de quatre-vingt-dix-huit ans, il avait les yeux fixes et ne pouvait plus voir.
15. Ary efa valo amby sivifolo taona Ely tamin' izay, sady efa pahina ny masony, ka tsy nahita izy.
16. And the man said unto Eli, I am he that came out of the army, and I fled to day out of the army. And he said, What is there done, my son?
16. L`homme dit à Éli: J`arrive du champ de bataille, et c`est du champ de bataille que je me suis enfui aujourd`hui. Éli dit: Que s`est-il passé, mon fils?
16. Ary hoy ilay lehilahy tamin' i Ely: Izaho ilay avy tany an-tafika, ary androany ihany no nandosirako niala tamin' ny miaramila. Ary hoy izy: Nanao ahoana izay tany, anaka?
17. And the messenger answered and said, Israel is fled before the Philistines, and there hath been also a great slaughter among the people, and thy two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God is taken.
17. "Celui qui apportait la nouvelle dit en réponse: Israël a fui devant les Philistins, et le peuple a éprouvé une grande défaite; et même tes deux fils, Hophni et Phinées, sont morts, et l`arche de Dieu a été prise."
17. Dia namaly ilay nitondra teny ka nanao hoe: Nandositra teo anoloan' ny Filistina ny Isiraely, ka be dia be no maty, ary izy mirahalahy zanakao, Hofinia sy Finehasa, mba maty koa, sady lasan-ko babo ny fiaran' Andriamanitra.
18. And it came to pass, when he made mention of the ark of God, that he fell from off the seat backward by the side of the gate, and his neck brake, and he died: for he was an old man, and heavy. And he had judged Israel forty years.
18. "A peine eut-il fait mention de l`arche de Dieu, qu`Éli tomba de son siège à la renverse, à côté de la porte; il se rompit la nuque et mourut, car c`était un homme vieux et pesant. Il avait été juge en Israël pendant quarante ans."
18. Ary izao no niseho, rehefa nilaza ny amin' ny fiaran' Andriamanitra izy, dia lavo nitsilany niala tamin' ny sezany teo anilan' ny vavahady Ely, ka folaka ny vozony, dia maty izy, satria efa antitra sady mavesatra. Ary efa nitsara ny Isiraely efapolo taona izy.
19. And his daughter in law, Phinehas' wife, was with child, near to be delivered: and when she heard the tidings that the ark of God was taken, and that her father in law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and travailed; for her pains came upon her.
19. Sa belle-fille, femme de Phinées, était enceinte et sur le point d`accoucher. Lorsqu`elle entendit la nouvelle de la prise de l`arche de Dieu, de la mort de son beau-père et de celle de son mari, elle se courba et accoucha, car les douleurs la surprirent.
19. "Ary ny vinantony vavy, vadin' i Finehasa, nanana anaka ka efa ho teraka; koa nony reny fa lasan-ko babo ny fiaran' Andriamanitra, sady maty avokoa ny rafozany sy ny vadiny, dia nitanondrika izy ka narary nihetsi-jaza, fa efa ho teraka."
20. And about the time of her death the women that stood by her said unto her, Fear not; for thou hast born a son. But she answered not, neither did she regard it.
20. Comme elle allait mourir, les femmes qui étaient auprès d`elle lui dirent: Ne crains point, car tu as enfanté un fils! Mais elle ne répondit pas et n`y fit pas attention.
20. Ary rehefa nadiva hiala aina izy, dia niteny ireo vehivavy nitsangana teo anilany ka nanao taminy hoe: Aza matahotra, fa velon-dahy ianao. Fa tsy namaly na nihaino izany izy.
21. And she named the child Ichabod, saying, The glory is departed from Israel: because the ark of God was taken, and because of her father in law and her husband.
21. Elle appela l`enfant I Kabod, en disant: La gloire est bannie d`Israël! C`était à cause de la prise de l`arche de Dieu, et à cause de son beau-père et de son mari.
21. "Dia nataony hoe Ikaboda ny anaran' ny zaza; fa hoy izy: Afaka ny voninahitry ny Isiraely, satria efa lasan-ko babo ny fiaran' Andriamanitra, sady efa maty koa ny rafozany sy ny vadiny."
22. And she said, The glory is departed from Israel: for the ark of God is taken.
22. Elle dit: La gloire est bannie d`Israël, car l`arche de Dieu est prise!
22. Ary hoy izy: Afaka tamin' ny Isiraely ny voninahitra, fa lasan-ko babo ny fiaran' Andriamanitra.
